The Museum

Permanent exhibition of the Museum of Central Otava Basin

The room shows the beginnings of the oldest industry in Strakonice – fez manufacture. The first fezes were produced in Strakonice in 1805–1807 and became a great export commodity. The export to Turkey was particularly strong until 1925. The machines on display document the production sequence. Visitors can also see a Jacquard loom, photos of factory buildings and an old map of the town from 1840s. Additionally, the display presents the local social life (the associations of SOKOL and ZVON, the first printing works and first newspaper) or the Strakonice native, Josef Skupa, the author of wooden puppets of Spejbl and Hurvínek.
